The Mission
The TAMPA BAY
WORLD AFFAIRS COUNCIL/INTERNATIONAL
BUSINESS FORUM and mission is to promote understanding of
the world and its people and to engage Tampa Bay region citizens in
becoming informed participants as part of the global community.
The TB WAC/IBFhosts monthly programs for its diverse
membership, which consists of professionals in business, academia,
government, diplomacy, and other non-governmental organizations, as
well as young professionals, educators, students, and all those
interested in the issues facing the international community.
The
TB WAC/IBFprovides
individuals who have an interest in staying informed on global
economic issues, world politics, business and trade an opportunity to participate in Off-The-Record
meetings with leading experts and governmental leaders. The
International Business Forum
provides programs and assistance to those looking to develop trade and
business opportunities outside the U.S. and works to promote foreign
direct investment into the region.
World Affairs Councils
currently operate in 87 cities nationwide and are all part of the
World Affairs Council of America in Washington, D.C. The council
will
host a series of events for its members – including a Distinguished Speaker Series, Meet Foreign
Ambassadors and Florida Consul General's Series, Author Series and Global
Warming & Energy Series - will feature prominent international
executives, diplomats, authors, journalists and other distinguished
world leaders and experts.
Non-members are welcome to attend
most events.
The World Affairs Council combined with the International Business
Forum provides individuals and
corporate executives the opportunity to stay informed of important
international economic, political, cultural and travel issues along
with opportunities to develop new business abroad. It offers globally minded citizens an opportunity
to hear from international experts and high level dignitaries about
their perspective of major world issues and also to enlighten members on the cultures of their
nations. It comes at a time when U.S. foreign policy around the world
is in question, making it increasingly important to understand the
decision making process in global affairs and
how decisions made around the world impact us locally.
Three World Affairs
Councils already exist in Florida in Jacksonville, Palm Beach and
Naples, all of which have been in existence for several years. Their websites can be accessed through
www.worldaffairscouncils.org.
Members can also network to
develop new personal or business relationships with individuals now
living and working in the Tampa Bay area from
around the world. The monthly luncheon forums offer the
opportunity to meet and listen to discussions on important world
issues from visiting
dignitaries, governmental officials, academic and scientific experts, business
leaders and recognized journalists invited to address members on
important political, economic, cultural or travel related
subjects.
