THE MISSION

 of

TAMPA BAY COUNCIL OF WORLD AFFAIRS & COMMERCE

is to promote understanding of the world and its people, and to engage Tampa Bay region business and citizens in becoming informed participants as part of the global community. It shall provide a venue for concerned citizens and leaders of Tampa Bay to consider issues of importance for international cooperation and foreign trade with our community and to act on those issues in accordance with the will of the members.

Tampa Bay Council of World Affairs is a member of the World Affairs Councils of America, which currently has members in 87cities nationwide all of which are part of the World Affairs Council of America in Washington, D.C. The council  will host a series of events for its members – including a Distinguished Speaker Series, Meet Foreign Ambassadors and Florida Consul General's Series, Author Series and Global Warming & Energy Series - will feature prominent international executives, diplomats, authors, journalists and other distinguished world leaders and experts.  Non-members are welcome to attend most events.

The Tampa Bay Council of World Affairs & Commerce hosts monthly programs for its diverse membership, which consists of professionals in business, academia, government, diplomacy, and other non-governmental organizations, as well as young professionals, educators, students, and all those interested in the issues facing the international community.

The Tampa Bay Global Initiative (TBGI) was formed through the TAMPA BAY COUNCIL OF WORLD AFFAIRS &  COMMERCE  to provide individuals who have an interest in staying informed on cultural awareness, global economic issues, world politics, business, trade and travel an opportunity to participate in Off-The-Record meetings with leading experts and governmental leaders. The TBGI provide programs and assistance to those looking to develop trade and business opportunities outside the U.S. and works to promote foreign direct investment into the region.

The TBGI and Council of World Affairs & Commerce  provides individuals and corporate executives the opportunity to stay informed of important international economic, political, cultural and travel issues along with opportunities to develop new business abroad through cultural exchange that creates better personal contacts. It offers globally minded citizens an opportunity to hear from international experts and high level dignitaries about their perspective of major world issues and also to enlighten members on the cultures of their nations. It comes at a time when U.S. foreign policy around the world is changing, making it increasingly important to understand the decision making process in global affairs and how decisions made around the world impact us locally.

Three World Affairs Councils already exist in Florida in Jacksonville, Palm Beach and Naples, all of which have been in existence for several years. Their websites can be accessed through www.worldaffairscouncils.org.

Members can also network to develop new personal or business relationships with individuals now living and working in the Tampa Bay area from around the world.  The monthly luncheon forums offer the opportunity to meet and listen to discussions on important world issues from  visiting dignitaries, governmental officials, academic and scientific experts, business leaders and recognized journalists invited to address members on important political, economic, cultural or travel related subjects.
